A tree uses what comes its way to nurture itself.
By sinking its roots deeply into the earth,
by accepting the rain that flows towards it,
by reaching out to the sun,
the tree perfects its character and becomes great.
Absorb, absorb, absorb.
That is the secret of the tree.
“God is the experience of looking
at a tree and saying, “Ah!” “
“The tree which moves some to tears of joy is in the eyes of others only a green thing that stands in the way. Some see Nature all ridicule and deformity, and some scarce see Nature at all. But to the eyes of the man of imagination, Nature is Imagination itself.”
William Blake, 1799, The Letters
THE BANYAN TREE
Called the Indian fig tree (Ficus bengalensis) grow over a large area. The roots then give rise to more trunks and branches. Because of this characteristic & longevity, the Banyan tree is considered immortal & sacred and is an integral part of the myths and legends in India. Even today, the banyan tree is the focal point of village life and the village council meetings under the shade of this huge shade-giving tree.
